Can Mature Games Work on the Wii?
http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/700273/Is-There-A-Future-For-Mature-Games-On-Wii.html
This article mentions a total of 36 Mature-Rated games on the Wii. So far, most of them, especially the popular MadWorld, have not gone too well in sales.
Can Mature games work on the Wii? What do companies need to do in order to attract the audience of both hardcore and casual gamers to such a game to make it as successful as games like Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Fit? Would the problem be because parents don't want their kids buying these games, or that gamers are just not appealed to the these games?

i think the problem for the lack of sales for mature wii titles is primarily due to gamers not purchasing them. the casuals have some fault as well, but how would a casual know a thing or two about games if his/her hobbies are anything but gaming related? the gamers have a huge responsibility for this because of their elitist attitude towards the wii; anything fancy software-wise will have them bickering on why it should belong on the 360/ps3 instead of the wii. they will bring up sales and faulty speculations of demographics to prove their point. also, they'll just groan and moan about it being a wii exclusive
here's an example:
although the ps3/360 crowd may not agree with some of these games, you get the idea.
the solution: persuasion in a professional manner. blogs, videos, vlogs, etc.

another problem is the fact that these games NEVER get any advertisin outside of a few rinky dink gamesite ads that either get ignored anyway, or the fact that casuals don't look at such sites. or it could be the simple fact that none of the wii's mature games are AAA efforts like the ones on 360/ps3. sure some may be exellent games like no more heroes and muramasa, but those games simply don't have same work and money put into them like mature games like oblivion, fallout, GTA etc which simply attract people more...even some casuals. its not so much that mature games can't sell on the wii, its that most of them simply aren't THAT good or not worth the time/money for some people.

hmmm, now that you mention it, i always hear people talk about games that have a 8.5+. then by that logic, a game has to have a good score for it to be playable rather than the style, the presentation, art, etc.
so tekken 6 is bad because it has an 83 on metacritic
disgaea 3 must be bad because it has a 75 on metacritic
mirrors edge must be bad because it has a 79 on metacritic
tales of vesperia must be bad because it has a 79 on metacritic
it should be more about the appeal than the scores, am i right?

yes you are. though i really didn't care for mirrors edge much, all the game you mentioned are great. simply cause they aren't AAA(except maybe tekken)does't mean they don't deserve good sales.RollingSilver wrote:darkwingdragon709 wrote:another problem is the fact that these games NEVER get any advertisin outside of a few rinky dink gamesite ads that either get ignored anyway, or the fact that casuals don't look at such sites. or it could be the simple fact that none of the wii's mature games are AAA efforts like the ones on 360/ps3. sure some may be exellent games like no more heroes and muramasa, but those games simply don't have same work and money put into them like mature games like oblivion, fallout, GTA etc which simply attract people more...even some casuals. its not so much that mature games can't sell on the wii, its that most of them simply aren't THAT good or not worth the time/money for some people.
