Onlive, is it the end of the world of gaming as we know it?
On today's ign daily fix, they announce that a new gaming service called Onlive will be launched in the US on June 17. http://communities.canada.com/shareit/blogs/technology/archive/2009/03/27/onlive-the-end-of-the-videogame-as-we-know-it.aspx if u check this site out, it will tell u wat it is. What's ur guys' opinion on it? Replay with ur thoughts.
My thoughts are, hmmmm? Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony have a lot to think about on how to compete with this. Too soon to tell.

This got me thinking, what if in the future ALL you needed to buy was a controller. That's it. Then you just set up an account and downloaded games via a shop, and everything would be inside the controller, but it would wirelessly connect to the TV and do everything a console does. So, basically it would be like a handheld system without a screen that wirelessly projects onto the tv screen. I think it would be geniusly conveinient but cost a shit load of money.

From my understanding is that u dont actually own the games, u basically pay for a subscription and u just stream watever game they have onto ur computer or tv and play watever u want, when ever

- This looks/sound REALLY cool .
But, from the looks of this controller, the D-Pad is WORSE than the 360 one .

If your going to trade in a game anyway then what's the point of buying it? Rent it or borrow it from someone if your just going to get rid of it.

well as popular as the 360, PS3, and Wii are i doubt this will have a big success. sony, microsoft, and nintendo have their own exclusives, so obiviously those titles won't appear on onlive. all the other companies will have to decide if they want their games on there. but u never know

this article basically sums it up
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/gdc-why-onlive-cant-possibly-work-article
this seems very unfeasible, were talking something tht might not even be anywhere close possible until maybe 20 yrs from now or more

The only thing that will be a major concern is that the internet connection MUST be perfect without cutting off. And since most people use routers, the chances of internet connections cutting off are quite consistent are quite on normal. Plus, if you're playing online or playing the streamed game and you lose connection, you'll face losing data or complete corruption of data.
This thing MIGHT not catch on quickly, but it will gain followers to it, similar to those of Steam. Only time will tell if it will be great.
