Re: Anyone diggin Metriod Other M
Part 1:
* Speed upgrades increase the rate of the charge beam.
* The game is mostly gameplay NOT cinematics. As in, an hour or more stretches without a single cutscene.
* That said, there will be small real-time cutscenes (similar to Prime), but these seem to be thinly placed.
* You cannot skip cutscenes.(Not sure about successive play-throughs though)
* You can dodge while in first person.
* Deactivating holographic generators reveals new areas to explore.
* The music seems to be mostly atmospheric, but should include lots of remixes.
* The auto-aim function can hit enemies from very far away, but missiles have a limited range.
* Samus turns slowly in first person.
* There will be sequences that can result in instant-death (such as one involving an elevator).
* There are both save points and continue points. Continue points occur more frequently, and usually right next to difficult sequences (such as the said elevator sequence).

Part 4:

The Official Nintendo Magazine offered some of their latest overall impressions in their 12th podcast. They've played through a large portion of the game, but still haven't completed it yet. They said "it was everything you'd expect from a Metroid game, and then a couple of other things on top of it."
* Overall, the game is "gorgeous" and "absolutely enormous."
* Some of the small new gameplay twists like the over-the-shoulder segments are a bit "strange" and "don't work that well."
* Samus moves fantastically and there are lots of items to find, with plenty of morphballing navigation etc.
* The game has "massive maps to explore."
* Some of the music in the game is a "bit odd."
* They said for those unsure, that the "dialogue is a bit cheesy at times" but it's "a great story" and should make up for any of those details.
* While it can slow the game down a bit, for the purpose of exploring for clues or items, they said that the first person "works really well" (and e.g., works better than Prime Pinball).
* Fans may question the developer's choices here and there, but overall, they are going to enjoy it.
Thanks to members of the Metroid Database for the summary.
Part 5:
Yoshio Sakamoto, the co-creator of Metroid, has been involved in many classic Metroid games but he believes that Other M is right up there with the best of them, calling it "a perfect Metroid experience."
"It is to fully understand, feel empathy and fight together with Samus Aran. In other words, it is to play Metroid: Other M. I hope you will enjoy playing Metroid: Other M for a perfect Metroid experience."
"The Prime series, which was developed by Retro Studios, is also a great series, but I was not involved there as the series was developed by other creators who have different perspectives."

Famitsu gave the game 9/9/8/9. Praising it's graphics, controls, exploration, combat and even the story. But they complained about the difficulty being too hard, with no easy mode. They also disliked enemy respawns,

what a bunch of wusses difficulty is a good thing it tests your gaming skills and it's alot more fun than a boring really easy game, they must hate old school gamesSoaringDive wrote:Famitsu gave the game 9/9/8/9. Re: Anyone diggin Metriod Other M
IGN gave it a 8.5 yet they didnt say anything truly negative other than it being a bit clunky. http://wii.ign.com/articles/111/1111849p1.html
If I recall MH3 also got that score and it was fantastic so then this will be too.

An 8.5? Expected a 9, but oh well. Ign's opinion means very little to me.

Agreed, reviews mean little to me in general.
